Grigor Dimitrov withdrew from the U.S. Open on Tuesday as he continues to recover from a chest injury.
The 34-year-old Bulgarian held a two-set lead over World No. 1 Jannik Sinner in Wimbledon's Round of 16 when he was forced to retire with a pectoral muscle injury on July 7.
Dimitrov has won nine singles titles on the ATP Tour but has never won a Grand Slam tournament. He has reached the semifinals at Wimbledon (2014), the Australian Open (2017) and the U.S. Open (2019) and the quarterfinals at the French Open (2024).
This will be the sixth straight major in which he has either withdrawn or retired due to injury: Wimbledon and the U.S. Open in 2024, and the Australian Open, French Open, Wimbledon and now U.S. Open in 2025.
Dimitrov was replaced in the main draw by Chile's Alejandro Tabilo, 28. Tabilo ranks No. 106 in the world and is a two-time winner on the ATP Tour. He reached the second round in 2022 for his best finish at the U.S. Open.
The U.S. Open draw is announced on Aug. 21. The tournament runs from Aug. 24 through Sept. 7 at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center in Flushing Meadows, N.Y.
